An update: This is the output from the printer: (a followup post with pics of the Colour Classic running will ... well, follow.)

As you will see, the printouts are generally gray, and there is a small pattern on the photoconductor that I'm unable to identify (I can't see it, it's only showing on the page) but I don't want to switch in a new toner cartridge only to discover that the problem is elsewhere. Any ideas are welcome.
