The great thing about the 6500 is that you can plug in an external set of speakers and then still make use of the sub-woofer. I'm running a pair of old 1994 apple speakers (came with a quadra) with my 6500 and the sound is wonderful. The iMac slot-loaders were a great leap from the tray loader speakers though - ewww...

Very true. The tray loaders sounded good to me until the slot loaders included the new Harmon/Kardon speakers. The amount of power those things produce is unreal. Throw in an iSub and its a really awesome setup.
