Well I couldn't leave well enough alone.

I have a 4gb jd that I would like touse in this system, mainly because the stock 750mb is noisy. My question is how do I fornat it in OS X and clone it? I am pretty sure I can make a .dmg then restore using disk utility's restore feature, bit what kind of disk iamge do I make?
