Changed the hard drive to a Western Digital. The new drive sounds a bit noisy as well. Is there any drive from this area that doesn't sound a bit noisy? It's not constantly noisy like the Seagate, just on accesses, which is a good thing. At least this drive is healthy and a little bit noisy as opposed to very noisy and clearly on its way out.

Anyway, Mac OS X still crashes during Software Update. Running a system diagnostic yields no results. Running Mac OS 9 seems to work perfectly. Even OS X Tiger runs without a hitch. After a quick web search, i'm convinced it's a bug in Mac OS X Jaguar, which is good news for the hardware, but at the same time a bit of a shame because I would have liked to run OS X Jaguar on this machine.

At least it works, that's the main thing.
