Sadly, it will not fit without major modding. The iPod Touch is about the thickness of 2.3 floppies. But anybody willing to do it, it's a great idea! (the Plus or SE might make a better candidate as they would show the case alterations the least)

Digital callipers in hand, a brand new 32gb ipod touch, in the middle where the 2 curves max out is 8.7 mm (and some change), the slot on my performa 200 is 6.25mm

it will however just barley fit into the faceplate of a pc drive, the center section is 8.9mm on standard pc drives, so maybe in the future for someone's manual disk drive
