Back when it was new and the local Mac Shack had some to sell me, they actually told me not to, that they broke a lot. If it's anything like the iMac DV, I think the darned things probably just run too hot. But for $50, if you like it, what the heck. If you can keep it cooler or simply don't use it a lot, this may be a non-issue.
I think it was the early models that were running hot. I'm fairly certain that the later models fixed that (like the 1.25ghz).
On a side note, I've been going through a bunch of iMac DV era and eMacs and preparing them for donation. No dud eMacs (yet, out of 4) and only 2 bad, possibly 3, iMac G3s from a lot of about 20.
For the age of both I think that's pretty good.
