I don't think so. When the NYC Bd of ED bought Macs (mostly LC series, but a few others as well), there were some school who jumped on the computer literacy late some two/three years and thought that there would be no more Macs. But Apple took their orders and found LCs to give to these schools. Some of these boxes I seen look like they were pretty beaten up and dirty, being the bottom of the pile in some warehouse somewhere; but the machines inside were new (New-Old Stock; aka NOS).
