At the moment I now have the new 9GB ( as 2+2+2+2+1GB) HD successfully partitioned using the FWB Software and used the OS7 install disks to install Mac IIfx specific on the first volume, I've now set the drive to SCSI:0 also on the buss I have the 40MB Apple drive still connected which is now SCSI:2 as it contains many usefull apps.

I've used the Control Panel - Startup Disk util to point to the volume on which the System folder has been installed, also used the FWB tools to mount the drive (which now needs doing every boot up, wasn't the case when addy was 2 - clue??). Once mounted I can access the 2GB etc. as normal - but still have to boot from the startup floppy.

OK so no floppy inserted, power up.... the happy mac icon pops up then the HD gets accessed and eventually a dialogue box pops up "The "system" file on this startup disk may be damaged. The installer can be used to repair this disk" - game over.

Just a though (grasp of desperation) I am assuming the boot HD needs to be SCSI addy 0. I have just seen something that may contradict that...hmm. but if a SCSI device was set to addy 0 then the IIfx wouln't boot coz of addy conflict...hmm.. anyway.. any suggestions please?

Just another thought: I wonder if there is a setting on my boot floppy that needs changing.
