To save on weight, power and battery stress, and have a long life - I'd advise you get a couple 4GB CF Cards, 1 CF to PCMCIA adapter

I have got a copy of the system in a CF card, and from time to time i managed to boot the 5300 from a PCMCIA adapter (not quicker but silent) and to save weight i removed the leaking batteries from their casing when i collected the first 5300 (the final result are the two pictures above) the empty case keeping the design of the PWB.

At some point Apple did the same IIRC.

I don't need a working battery anyway.
