I think the basic translation is "The thing may burn your house down, it might not, but what it's doing is un-diagnose-able from afar and indicative of a potentially serious problem. So if you refuse to accept "change out the power supply" as an acceptable course of action then there's little anyone can say here that can help you."

I suppose the only way you'll ever *know* if it will burn down your house and kill your whole family is to keep doing what you're doing.

Edit:

In all fairness I did once actually encounter a worn power cord that was shorting if even just slightly jiggled. If the machine *never does it again* after swapping the cord then perhaps you found the problem.
