I've never had a problem maintaining my Ethernet connection, neither to the internet nor to other Macs. I just have compatibility problems with Netscape 2 because it is quite old and most modern sites play best with the newest browsers. I wouldn't be surprised about getting dropped connections via dial-up. But if you are getting connection problems over Ethernet, perhaps it's time to check the Ethernet hub you are using. Try connecting only the SE/30's Ethernet cable direct to your internet modem, disconnecting ever other Ethernet device. If it works in that condition, it could be the hub. My hub is 10/100 base-T and I've never had a problem with it, but I've heard others complain about their 10/100 Ethernet hubs in these forums, claiming incompatibilities. Not such what the root cause behind that is though.
