, I just took a peek at the disassembly/reassembly required in dealing with a Clamshell (ouch!). That is at least as bad as a 2400c, and that is saying something.

I changed the HD in mine. Disassembling a clamshell does takes time but is quite easy. I would follow beachycove's advice and perform the checks, it just might solve your problem.
