I have never had an issue booting new world towers off any modern optical drive when attached to the onboard PATA. Though, I have not tried any on my SATA card yet.

I would say to get whatever you want and try it. Well, perhaps not bluray.. never heard of someone trying to connect one to a PPC Mac.. not that they support bluray anyway.
