System 7 Disks and System 7.6 sealed box
Hi all,
Last night, I came across a set of 12 System 7 floppies in a sleeve, and a sealed box set of System 7.6, for about $10 each. I'm pretty happy with the haul, as I've seen the floppy set sell for stupid money, and I've never seen a boxed System 7.6, especially sealed. My fave OS is System 7, so I'm very happy to have come across these items. Now I can install System 7 whenever I want, yee hah!

Very nice.
Your copy of System 7...is it one of the sets that would have shipped with a Mac back in the day? If it is it'll say in large Apple Garamond print, "System Disks", with "Use these disks if you need to install System Software." underneath. On the back will be a barcode with the model of Mac they originally shipped with. I have two of these sets for 7.1: one shipped with my LCIII, another shipped with an LCII.

These are the links to the eBay auction. Hopefully I receive them soon!

Not sure if you are referring this question to me, but no my version would not have shipped with a new Mac (this had to be purchased separately).Your copy of System 7...is it one of the sets that would have shipped with a Mac back in the day?
Yeah, looking at that auction, that set would have come as a retail version

I saw the price and I thought " Give me one good reason not to buy them". I couldn't find one.
old boxed systems and software always a good find
found boxed system 7.6 after taking the picture

are those typos on the boxes? Systeem? if those are, you got some RARE finds...
Actually I'd say that given some of the other names and the fact that applefreak is in Belgium, its in a foreign language.
Either way, I'm loving "Mac OS 9 met Sherlock 2"

That System 7 box cover is great; I don't think I had ever seen it before.
If you have a scanner and some free time, would you perhaps be able to scan a high resolution image of the front?

Is that to me or Concorde? If it's me, happy to do so. If not, good luck! That System 7 box cover is great; I don't think I had ever seen it before. If you have a scanner and some free time, would you perhaps be able to scan a high resolution image of the front?![]()
Ah! The confusion with this thread! Is that to me or Concorde? If it's me, happy to do so. If not, good luck!
My apologizes JS for posting my System 7 box on your thread. I will never do that again.
Coxy- I would be more than glad to forward a picture of my System 7 box, in addition to its valuable contents, which I can proudly say are in mint condition (I wish I could say that for the box itself, however). The beauty of it is all of the software I have pictured on this thread was free, and the fellow who had it lived only two blocks away from my house! 5 years of searching for software to upgrade my valiant SE finally came to an end (although I still look for vintage Mac/IBM software) after searching through both my elementary, and secondary school, talking to ICT personnel, teachers, principals...the whole nine yards. That System 7 box cover is great; I don't think I had ever seen it before.

Fair's fair, I made fun of your Windows haul! So I think I had it coming.Ah! The confusion with this thread! Is that to me or Concorde? If it's me, happy to do so. If not, good luck!

Well, I can assure you it was not because of that. I figured because the thread was System 7 related I would post a couple of pics just to keep it going. No sense in starting a new thread just to compete with one another.Fair's fair, I made fun of your Windows haul! So I think I had it coming.
Anyway, I learned my lesson. :beige:
I think I did too! But, if you hadn't, then you wouldn't have someone ogling your software, so it worthwhile.
It's perfectly fine for other people to post related experiences in a thread. Much better to have discussion, reminiscing, and back-and-forth than the alternative of many individual threads each with a few "garts" replies. :b&w:
The scan I would like is of the front of the System 7.1 box that Concorde1993 posted a picture of.
I know it's a bit silly and nerdy but I really like the design and would like to print a poster of it.

Fine, snub my plain and boring box art!
JS, why don't you post some pics of your Apple disks when they arrive? It's your thread after all (btw, I was not expecting my System 7 box to gain the attention it did).Fine, snub my plain and boring box art!
Yeah, I suppose I should. The pictures were fairly average, so I'll take some better ones to put up. After all, what is a conquest without photos? A nonquest.
The disks arrived today, and I'm pretty pleased. The 12 800k floppies all work, and I took Disk Images of them so I can store them securely. It is System 7.0, and it all works perfectly!
The System 7.6 box was damaged, so I took off the shrink wrap, but everything inside is in as new condition. All the manuals, CDs, floppies, warranty cards, even a small brochure for the 'new'G3 iMac.

Very nice. I'm curious though - how did an iMac brochure get into a sealed System 7.6 box? Mac OS 8 was released around July 1997, and the iMac didn't become public knowledge until April 1998. I can't imagine they would have still been making new copies of System 7.6 by then...
I know, it's a bit weird. Everything in the box has a copyright date of 1997 (except the iMac 'Think Different' brochure), so maybe they did continue to sell for a little while afterwards? It is Australian stock too.
Also, there is a disc inside for 7.6, and one for 7.6.1.

If I remember, Apple still sold certain versions of the system for some time after they had formally been discontinued. I seem to recall Apple still selling 7.1 about ten years ago.
Glad I was of some assistance, Coxy.
