Mac IIci: Worth the Investment? Hardware 4 posts Dec 4, 2010 — Dec 5, 2010
You may have heard about the, um, decomposed IIcx I got. I like the IIcx/IIci form factor and could ultimately use one as a A/UX Mac (Currently no Mac I have is A/UX capable). It would also be my first real expandable Mac, much fun to be had there.

I've found a IIci online somewhere. It works apparently, but from the pics I can see it still has the original caps, and An Astec power supply. Luckily I have my IIcx's GE power supply on hand for replacement (heard that the astecs are not trustworthy), but what about the caps? Should I be concerned?

Just about any old 68K mac that has not had work done to it will eventually need some, that is the problem you have collecting old gear.

IIci are nice machines and unlike the IIcx have built in video AND a slot for CPU upgrades along 3 Nubus slots. My favorite expansion chassis are the 950 and II/IIx/IIfx machines. I guess whatever you can find cheap enough will do.

The IIci is my favourite 68K Mac. Expandable, stackable, and relatively cheap.

My favorite 68k Mac is definitely the Quadra 700, which is in a case nearly identical to the IIcx/IIci
