I did start doing some encoding with the included MediaPress card. Mixed results so far. After about 30 minutes encoding stops with an error about my system being too slow... I seriously doubt that, it wasn't even straining.
As for the encode quality? When I played back on the television it looked great. But then trying to watch on my computers was not as good. There was a bit of warping at the top of the screen, as if the top inch or so was shifted slightly to the right. Also there were weird grainy artifacts when viewing up close. The first problem I am hoping may be solved by recording through my TBC rack and using better cables. And the second problem I am hoping I can remedy by improving upon the default encoding settings.
Why does the encoding stop? I will need to look into that.
At this rate it might be a while before I try actually authoring DVDs with this setup, but it does have potential.
