PDQ, Duos and Duo Dock

PDQ, Duos and Duo Dock Hardware 4 posts Dec 11, 2010 — Dec 14, 2010
In the past week I have collected a few new items...some I have been really looking for.

New to my collection is a Powerbook Duo 280c with 22MB RAM and a 320MB HD, and a Powerbook Duo 230 with 12MB? and a 120MB HD (its not booting properly ATM).

The big thing is a Duo Dock II which is a wonderful thing to have. I only had a minidock and a ethernet dock before this. Can't wait to set it up in a more permanent fashion.

Thanks to fellow 68k member stevep for all the duo stuff!

I also picked up a 266mhz PDQ in great shape off of ebay for $25 shipped. It was advertised as not booting properly (restarting while booting) but a quick hard drive replacement fixed that. It came maxed with 512MB RAM, a relatively dead battery, and a cd-rom.

A good haul overall!

$25 barely covers the 2 x 256MB PC100 low density RAM, you did well.

The RAM made it very worthwhile. It does take a while to boot, which I attributed to the RAM once I got it to boot properly. Maybe I can resurrect the drive but that is a project for later.

A PDQ with RAM maxed out does take a long time to boot. Enough to make you think it's broken the first couple of times. However, with 512K you can reasonably run Tiger on it if you are so inclined. I did for several years. Now I've retired mine to OS 9 translator service, as a handy machine to access SCSI, serial, LocalTalk, floppies, ADB and other old school technologies that the Cube doesn't support.
