Help with my SE. Networking 6 posts Dec 14, 2010 — Dec 23, 2010
Hi i recently got an SE and I'm loving it.It is in minty condition and everything still work. I want to network it with my other old macs. It is currently running 6.0.1and I think it is quite fast with that version . But would it be better to upgrade to 7 or stay on 6 (and upgrade to the last 6) It currently has 1mb ram and a 20 mb hd but I plan to upgrade it to 4MB ram and a 170 mb hd.

What should I do, 6 or 7 ?

6.0.8 is the best.... I'm running it on my SE/30

Thanks that is all I needed to know 8-)

I love mine too.

I recommend using OS 6.0.8 and Appleshare 2.0.1, then you can use a serial cable to transfer files to and/or from other serial-equipped macs with Localtalk.

System 7.1 is fine, too. I'm running it on my SE SuperDrive, and I haven't had any problems. It's very useful if you need to read DOS disks, and do not have an archaic PC at your disposal.
