Last week I randomly decided I needed a nice "new" old PowerBook to play with. I have a Duo 2300c but it does get a bit cumbersome to use without hooking up the mini-dock and various attachments. It's also in storage right now!
Thanks to a quick eBay stop and a few days worth of watching, I scored a PowerBook 520c - with maxed RAM (36MB) for only $19.99. I only put in a single bid, and was the only bidder. The seller is shipping to me today via UPS so hopefully I'll have it before end of week. I definitely consider the RAM a big plus considering how hard it would be to find an upgrade.
It also has the manuals included - but no mention of media. Oh well!
Now all I need is an HDI30 to DB25 SCSI cable or adapter so I can plug in an external CD-ROM drive. |)

My first laptop was 520c I got in 2004. I still have it, but my 540c has replaced it. The 36mb RAM card is rare, and out of the 5 5xx I had, only the 540 had it.
Good score, excellent price, especially with the maxed RAM - it's impossible to find separately!
I got my shipment notice - it should be in my hands on Thursday!!
That RAM alone is worth the price. Nice score.
It's here! A few pics from the iPhone:
The full spread. (Yes, even came with the original stickers!)
About this computer.
This made me giggle just a bit.
So yeah. Aside from one of the feets being broken, this machine is awesome and feels incredibly snappy with OS 8.

Score! Looks like it was never even used. I love the form factor of the Blackbirds.
That makes me giggle too. I had an Apple Visa card way back when. The maximum reward one could accumulate was something like $1500, IIRC.![]()

I had about that much, a little less, when Montgomery Wards cleared out stock of the 520C for $499 each. I managed to find three of them, which I purchased. Then I redeemed my Apple Dollars from the card using that purchase. So the 520Cs were essentially free.
Then I sold the three 520C for about $1000 each. So in a quick week, I netted almost $3000...
Ah, the good old days...
