I just read online that the PPC 740 (aka G3) is pin-compatible with the 603ev.

Although i'm sure there more to it than just this, but couldn't a 603 be desoldered from a PB1400 processor card and replace with a 740 to make a Sonnet Crescendo upgrade card?
