Anyone in the UK or EU able to recap? Software 8 posts Feb 4, 2011 — Feb 6, 2011
Hi There

I am sticking my toe in the water here to see if anyone here is in the UK and is proficient at soldering to recap SE/30 / Classic / Color Classic boards?

I'm a complete dunce and would happily pay someone to do a good job. Shipping to the US just isn't cost effective...

Thanks!

Alex

check out amibay.com. There are lots of people who do recaps there. I've seen pictures of a SE/30 being done.Don't know how much they charge for allof that however.

Alex,

You can do it, I just filed my soldering iron tip to a point and was VERY careful. :b&w:

Local TV repair shop? Electronics student at the local poly? No shipping = happier owner in my view.

I enclose a picture of some caps on my Classic board, best practice is to de-solder both attachments on the old capacitor at once, if you can.

Well, I was tempted to give it a go myself, but I am a real duffer when it comes to soldering. I have a few bad classic 2 boards to practice on (too far corroded to be repaired). I just got the feeling you had to be some kind of neurosurgeon to be any good at it...

and believe it or not, replacing caps on these boards are a walk in the park, compared to some of the stuff i have to do to electronic boards at my everyday work.... :O

such as removing/reballing/replacing EBGA64 ICs. FUUUUN

This is an interesting approach that I am going to try next time.
