I haven't taken a good in-depth look at the dead drive from the Ti, but I certainly recall that it didn't make unusual noises when the system was powered up. Maybe the platters have been frozen due to stiction stemming from a period of non-usage. It'd be interesting to get its Power-on hours count from the SMART parameters; would certainly be a good gauge of the machine's mileage!
