Best nubus graphic card for IIx or IICi w 040 upgrade.

Anything with 3MB or more of RAM will do (Radius/Supermac/etc).

The most common cards seem to be Supermac Thunder/24 that have 3MB of RAM and do decent color depth and resolution. Whatever you can find that is cheap will do the job.

Ability to deliver 24 bit colour at 1280 x 1024 (min 1024 x 768) resolution is what I look for. It means that you can use a modern TFT without too many worries and that it will make a decent workstation for editing colour images.

Answering your question, the Radius 24X nubus cards are good units, fast and half size - a good thing to get.

Gah, I should have noted most of these are red - needless to say, it makes it go even faster

My favourite card is the 8*24*GC, but that's a no-go with an '040.

I bought a Radius PrecisionColor Pro 24X for $25, new old-stock. It was the regular green board and not the fancy shmancy red kind, but it's still fast. 3MB VRAM and QuickDraw acceleration. Good card. In fact it's sitting in my own IIci with an 040 upgrade.

I've never found a Radius Product that didn't live up to my expectations . . . which are VERY HIGH!

I can't think of a SINGLE company other than Radius, including (obviously) Apple, (more surprisingly) Nikon, Canon, Leitz, classic tool Mfrs. like Craftsman, Delta, Powermatic, maybe even DeWalt, but probably not Freund, but I never had many of their tools.

Be that as it may:

The MOST important thing, IMHO, about collecting any kind of expansion card is to begin collecting drivers for ANYTHING you may ever dream of, wish for, want or just run across at a good price!

Radius is great for driver availability. gamba is great for general info and drivers.

One of my favorite little VidCards for something with severe slot limitations, like your IIci, is the Futura II LX because it has provision for either an Ethernet or a DSP Daughtercard, which saves you a slot! I've got the Ethernet version somewhere in a box around here (hopefully) . . .

Trash, have you tried that Futura ethernet daughter card with Open Transport?

My experience with the Futura II SX is that the computer will lock up if Open Transport is enabled. Classic Networking works fine though.

I'm wondering if there's anything different about the Futura II LX in that regard or if it has the same issue.

I wish I knew enough Mac programming to have even a hope of a fantasy about fixing the driver problem that causes that.

Sorry, that was almost ten years ago and I'm not sure if I've even seen that card since the great storage room disaster.
