Oddball 6100/60. Help ID this thing

Bought this machine today off craigslist along with a few other interesting ones. It doesnt have the stock PowerMac 6100/66 ID badge

The machine is pretty much toast. the main pram battery exploded and rusted off the mainboard, the power supply is nice and rusty and its missing a hard drive

Any ideas- I opened the case up, looks like a stock 6100

My guess is that it started life as a Centris 610 or Quadra 610 and was upgraded. What is the serial number on the machine?

The serial number indicates a machine made after the discontinuation of the Quadra 610. Of course, I think some upgrade kits came with new serial stickers (but I'm not certain of this). It would seem as though this got a logic board swap as part of an upgrade or replacement and the sticker was stuck on in place. There's also a slim chance this could have been made with a left over Quadra 610 shell. It's definitely a mystery machine of sorts.

I'd agree with Scott - its a Quadra/Centris 610/660AV thats been upgraded to a 6100. Systems that got a logic board upgrade back in the day also used to get a new case tag with the correct model number on it.

The font they used for Macintosh is the most ugly variant of Garamond I have ever seen. Why is it bolded like that.

I have one of these as well. Strange machine. It doesn't work at the moment, because I need a ROM SIMM, and an HDI45-DB15 adapter.

Good catch -- I don't think it actually is like that on the regular quadra/centris machines.

Informal recollection of informal observations of various 6100s over the years indicates to me that they weren't all manufactured 100% the same, and that small details like that may have changed over the years. Although I have actually never seen a Mac with a bolded "Macintosh" or model name like that before. -- Very odd indeed.

Indeed...in fact I actually had a mate who came across a "Macintosh 6100/60" around 2001/2002, and its "Macintosh" was not bolded like that, regular Apple Garamond like on any other Mac.

Not only that, but the ugly bolded garamond is crooked.

The logic board is toast on it, As is the power supply and whole bottom case, its a rusted pile of pooh,I may swap the lid onto another 6100 and make it a functional system. Pretty neat unit

Well after a ton of cleaning up the old board which I thought was toast, I put it into the non rusty case I had.. Put some ram in it, and its running pretty nice. It identifies as a Power Macintosh 6100/66.
