What comes to mind is that VLC has a DVD decoder built-in. I have played DVDs on machines without them using VLC. You would probably need 10.3 on it and find a compatible version for 10.3. I don't know if that OS can be put on with xpostfacto or not. Sounds like a mission. That should work..
