Soldering more Memory on Powerbook 520 Memorycard Hardware 4 posts Apr 30, 2011 — Sep 18, 2011
I got a Powerbook 520 with 4MB Memorycard, but 8MB Memory is not enough for me :p

I attached pictures from the card, has anybody a clue what memory and what resistor i must solder?

When you can pick up larger size RAM modules on eBay for cheap, the time/life spent soldering on 4MB isn't worth it :)

68k Powerbook RAM in large sizes is not exactly on eBay every day, and a 4MB stick is small enough to risk destroying. I say go for it! I would guess that you need to find RAM ICs that exactly match those on the other side. As for the other components, I have no idea. Alas, probably the safest route is to find a larger capacity RAM module and copy it.

It has been a lot of years, but as I recall you must use the same brand pseudo-static memory chip. Or use the more expensive full static memory chip.

I don't think it needs any resisters. I think all of that is taken care of in the memory control IC. It would be good to add ceramic capacitors. Either .1 or .01
