Powerbook 165 with 12V power supply?

I got a Powerbook 165 but without power supply :'(

I tried 9V 1A and it works little bit, but its not reliable (floppy access goes into a reboot).

Have anyone tried a 12V (2A) power supply?

yea, and youl burn it up.

Stick with 7.5V 2A

My PB180 peaks at 1.72amps when the floppy is accessed and HDD spins up during boot time. it idles at 0.6amps

I had a broken iHome docking station, and it has a 2amp 7.5v power adapter, and it worked perfect.

Never use a power supply with a higher (or lower) voltage than the proper rated supply for the device, and always make sure there is enough current (amps/milliamps) available. And always use a regulated supply, to ensure the voltage is stable.

Unless you don't care about destroying the device.

More current is OK; the device will only draw as much as it needs.

yeah not recommended, could fry it...

Even though I did run my 165 off a 12v battery once and it worked fine... still, don't do it. I was young, stupid, and lucky(and maybe a little bored).

Internally the 165 uses 5 V linear regulators. If you feed it 12 V you risk overheating the pass transistors and popping the electrolytic caps. As I recall the caps were rated for either 12 V or 15 V.
