Nasty SE

Found an average looking SE for $5 today. It was marked "no video" but came up to simasi-like video corruption. So, I picked it since I didn't have a dual-superdrive SE yet. I figured I could clean it up, maybe replace a few caps or RAM or something and revive it.

I cracked the case to find ...

Okay, well, maybe I can clean that

The upside is it had a Etherport SE network card with AUI and BNC connector. It looks untouched by the disaster on the logic board:

Also picked up a boxed LC PDS ethernet card for $2. Anybody need one?

Yikes! Holy exploded battery!

That makes me incredibly sad - but hopefully you can get it restored!

Ouch, that IS nasty.

You can use shamada's guide to figure out what the problem might be specifically. I used it to determine that my brother's SE/30 needs a new powerboard. The T2 flyback transformer is bad. So the motherboard's condition is unknown.

Oh, I think I know what's wrong, I just don't know if it's saveable. You like that totally eaten away, loose axial capacitor rolling around above the processor?

Oohhh... Sorry I didn't notice it at first, and I'm not that knowledgeable about the actual components of the Mac motherboards. Which is partly why I didn't notice it. :p

I have no idea what that part is but it must have been important. (I know you know that, I only said that to emphasize how little I know.)
