Mac Classic with Unusual Serial Number 68k 3 posts Sep 10, 2011 — Sep 11, 2011
I found this Classic while browsing eBay and noticed it had a serial number of E9508CMF1335LL/A.

The label looks to be almost homemade and claims it was made in the 50th week of 1989. I know of production Classics made as early as July-August 1990, but this was released far earlier if the sticker is for real.

Aside from this serial number, it appears to be a typical Mac Classic with nothing abnormal/different about it. It does, however, have a lot of bids.

Here is a link to the auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-APPLE-MACINTOSH-CLASSIC-SYSTEM-7-1-4MB-/110739709574?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19c899de86

I sold a Mac Classic to a member here that was manufactured February 1991.

That sticker in the listing has a corner that's pealing, it very well could have been tampered at one point. I dunno, I just looked at the case of our SE/30 here and while it looks similar, it's not exact. (For example, our SE/30 has a little "M" in the lower left corner while the listing has the ® symbol.)

The Mac Classic I sold also has that little "M."

It's also interesting that while the one I sold had everything etched into the plastic. The listing has a label. Very interesting. The Model numbers don't even match. (M0420 vs. M1420)

I have both sticker and engraving Classics, so that part is likely legit. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason behind why they used a combination of the two types of case backing--I've seen Classic buckets from 1990 with engraving, 1991 with stickers, and 1992 with engraving (on Classic IIs).

That Classic on eBay doesn't seem to have a legit model number in its serial number.
