Virtual PC 7 not recognizing XP CD?

Virtual PC 7 not recognizing XP CD? PowerPC 7 posts Jan 17, 2012 — Jan 18, 2012
So this is driving me nuts. I bought a new in box copy of Virtual PC 7 at the flea market for $10! Problem is, I can't get the dang eMac to pick up the XP Professional CD. I followed the instructions it gave me, and it says "OS not found. "Install an OS on this hard drive" and Reboot and select proper boot device, which I am. Anyone know why it's doing this? I know there's nothing wrong with the drive or the CD. Any ideas on this?

Computer is a 1.42GHz eMac with 2 gigs of RAM running Leopard.

Well, I am currently switching over to the MDD to try it. Will report back in a few.

Strange, doesn't want to read the CD on the MDD, either.

Ok, it doesn't recognize W98, 2000, XP Pro or Ubuntu/Kubuntu. But it recognizes Vista. It will get to press any key to boot, and then it says it cannot be installed on this PC. I know that since it's not programmed to accept Vista.

The problem is that, IIRC, host CD access is broken under Leopard. Try using Disk Utility to image the XP install CD and install from that. See http://www.macwindows.com/VPC7.html#121407d.

WHOOO! IT worked! 8-)

Made an image from the CD, converted it from .CDR to .ISO and it worked!

I run VPC on my imac G5 1.9ghz, and actually its surprisingly quick in windows 2000. XP is a bear, so i dont bother as runs about as slow as a spyware riddled environment on an atom PC.
