In my experience, it seems that these drives get dust in their mechanism as well as the grease goes "hard" and jams things from releasing etc.

I've had good luck so far by removing the drive assembly, removing the drive from the bracket, dusting with compressed air then cleaning all the old grease off the side mechanisms with some alcohol and cotton buds then lightly oiling.

I suspect light oil isn't ideal and some sort of grease would be a better idea, but something is better than nothing. I've fixed two this way so far.
