Crazy iMac conquest!

So earlier I'm driving down the road, and I see something blue laying in a ditch. I drive by and then realize, HEY! Wait a minute.... that's an iMac! So I back up to where it was. Sure enough, a 233 Revision B iMac laying in a ditch, busted all to heck. So I picked it up and tossed it in the trunk!

To make this short, I took it apart and harvested the memory, HD, CD drive, CPU card and video memory out of it. The rest went in the trash. Surprisingly, the hard drive still spins up!

That's nuts! Just personally, I would have pulled the speakers too, but well done giving the rest of the parts another shot at life.

What speed CPU card did you get?

It's a 233MHz card. I was going to pull the speakers, but they were soaked and kinda rusty. I'm thinking it's been sitting there for about 2 months.

AMAZING. Assuming this thing was tossed out of a car window....The HD works perfectly. I just copied the whole drive to my MDD's drive. Not a single hiccup. Has 9.1 on it and a bunch of educational programs.

Sweet find, too bad it was beat up so badly. I've found a few CRT iMacs for free and are loading them up with kiddie games I've bought from thrift shops. I plan on giving them to my 4 year old daughter's friends. They love to play with her Snow iMac when they come over. I just need some keyboards, mice and RAM and I'll be all set--trying to do this for free.

Keyboards and mice are not a problem as they are usb, any kind will do except for the Apple logo.

Ram is becoming quite scarce today (moreover the first so-dimm generation) and sometimes can be tricky to mix.

That's nice find, atleast for parts. Real "road apple" by all means :lol:

This reminds me of an DOA iMac at work, only cdrom panel missing/broken (so far i can recall, it's been years) but the machine was trashed. The machine was never fired up. So sad.

Nicely done. Out of curiousity did you try powering the machine up? Even though it is in shocking condition (makes the flooded iMac I picked up from the tip shop look like its in mint condition), it would be interesting to know if the machine actually powered up.

Understandable...still, if it were given some time to dry it would have been interesting to see if it would power up.

Undamaged case parts might have been good for art projects of some kind...maybe cut out the top Apple in a circle and make a clock? I'm guessing it was too beat for an iMacquarium.

I too wouldn't have been surprised if it booted after drying out.
