Quadra 700 HDD LED

Hello guys,

I need a little bit of help with finding a red HDD LED for some of my Quadras 700. It looks like it should be the same as the green power LED, but I am not really into hit and miss purchases. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine is green

Just get an led from radio shack and make it any color you want.

Some say this particular LED came with later revisions, some have red ones since new, like this guy ...

... and yours is green, which is even more puzzling. I thought HDD LEDs always came in standard red/orange.

I have the housing but no LED in mine. I'm not sure the drive even has a spot to attach one.

I have checked my HDDs and found that they all have connectors, just in different places. For instance, Quantum drives have a separate one, while IBMs share them with the mode selection jumper pins.

I've found that with the early (pre-FDHD/SuperDrive) SE's have red HDD activity LEDs, while the later SE's and SE/30's have amber colored LEDs instead, so the variation isn't totally puzzling to me.

However, I didn't even know the Q700 had one at all!

Now I need to see if mine has one. I can't remember if it does or not.

My SE had a greenish yellow one

The same thing was with the x86 PCs, 486 being the last generation with the red ones.

On the Q700, if you look closely, you will notice a spot where the LED should be.

Well, if this counts for anything, I changed the power LED in my Mac IIx to blue.

I never thought about that but yeah, my 386 has three status LEDs: green (power), red (HD activity), yellowish orange (turbo!), but my 486 and Pentium changed the red for green, the others stayed the same.

I've seen green, red, and orange in IIcis. I'd imagine the same for Quadras.

I did the same on my IIci, but I've regretted it.

I'm going to swap it to Red (vintage, defused, not one of those super bright ones.)
