Did I kill my SE/30? Help!

Today I was disassembling a newly acquired SE/30 to dust the insides and whatnot. The only thing I actually took out of the unit itself was the motherboard. After reassembly, the fans came on momentarily, but the screen stayed black. After further attempts, the SE/30 does nothing when the switch is flipped. xx(

What could I have done to prevent it from powering up? I didn't fry my power supply, did I?

Basically you could have done anything - have you gone back in to reseat the RAM, connectors, ROM, etc?

At one stage, I thought I did this to my SE/30 as well, until I realised that I forgot to plug in the SCSI connector. :I

Like Byrd says, check all your connections, especially the power and SCSI connections.

Ditto, here. I'd start by checking all your cables; make sure they are securely connected. If those are okay, then the next step would be to see if the P3 connector's solder joints underneath are secure. Chances are that a variety of things (heat, old age, corrosion, etc.) may have caused tiny cracks in the solder, working that loose. Simply removing and reapplying new solder to each of those pins will fix that. You'll need to disconnect and remove the entire analog board/power supply assembly to do that. If still no go, I'd recommend this, but only as a last resort. Before pursuing that, I'd check the power supply first. Chances are it may be dead, a part has failed or it needs adjusting. If the power supply is a failure, replace it with a matching Sony CR-44 or ASTEC model. The Sony power supplies had far less issues than the ASTEC brand.
