We just hooked up a logic analyzer to te PCB, turns out the shift register seems to be toast. The inputs VID(0) to VID(7) are all fine, while the output lacks 2 bits. Also, the IC itself looked a bit battered. I'll have it replaced, we'll see then...

The pattern is 11111100 by the way. I also thought it was 11101110 at first
