so If i remember correctly there was a card that allowed color / greyscale on an se /30.  Greyscale internally and color with an external monitor.  Here in North Dakota, computer scrap is easy to come by and i happen to have found a color crt that will fit, however i cant for the life of me remember what the card was called.

You are probably referring to the micron xceed card :)

Rare as hens teeth, and VERY expensive if found. over 1K sometimes. 

The other option is hack a IIsi card which are cheap. but akward fit. 

did they ever finish the internal greyscale hack tech?

nope, mike didn't think the IIsi card could do what we needed for greyscale hack… but the IIsi Radius card in a se/30, that does work...

Well grayscale is 512x384, whereas compact mac is 512x342, and two different line frequencies. Not sure how it would sync up, I havent tried.
