I was able to get System 8 on an SE/30 by doing the steps Gamba outlined within an emulator, and then I transferred it over via CD or CF with CF to SCSI adapter.

Nice setup....Recap it! I used polymer caps to restore my socketed board to keep it looking stock. There's a thread here with P/N's if you're interested.
