BAH! locked up while updating the OS. I've either got a HDD or RAM issue I think 
computer was still responding though, could log out of screen sharing and back in this time (last night's lockup really locked it up) this time the progress bar was just stuck for over an hour in the same spot.
oh, now it says 'reconnecting' maybe it finished and is restarting? hummm.
