To clarify: the lid was BRIEFLY off the hard drive and is back on. The hard drive is fine. I booted from it and used it since then. I knew I would catch hell for the hard drive being open!

Anyway, thanks for all the responses and the info.

I will swap out all of the capacitors for new ones. Should be a fun project.

(And I promise to take better care of my hard drives from now on.)
