Another vote for the Classic. Really though, the best time to get Compacts for free was 10 years ago, when everyone was throwing them out. Mac 128k, 512k/e, Plus, SE, SE/30, Classic II....they're all, for the most part, being recognised as the collectables that they are and are either being held onto, or being sold.
