Tricked out, Macintosh SE
Thanks to mcdermd i was able to upgrade my Dual 800K SE, to Dual Super Drives!
Poped in the new SWIM, LOW/HIGH Rom's
took out both 800k drives, installed dual Superdrives,
Why Stop there? Slapped in 4megs of ram!
Soldered on a fresh RTC Battery.
Slid a Internal Iomega scsi zip drive fits nicely under the CRT
Modded Zip drive, to not eject zip disk.
installed 6.0.8 on the main boot(zip) disk.
She's now a good runner!

Now, install SSW 7.0 or 7.0.1 and be more compatible with the rest of the world.

Heck, 7.1 would run fine on it...

Nice Work! The zip and jaz drives make these guys pretty peppy.
That file on the screen was created in Feb 2025?
yeah file dates are all over the place, i'm always draging and dropping files from the PM7500 server,
sometimes I run files over localtalk as well.
many of my machines have the RTC battery removed,
looks like the files i have opened, have the proper date now
as to why some are 2040 or 2025, i don't know
Good eye!

ps: good suggestion ok i am going to find some system 7 to throw on there

NICE!!!!! :approve:
Great hack . . .
. . . one teensy weensy lil' nit-to-pick/suggestion to make . . .
. . . file both FDD slots an almost imperceptibly tad wider on each site . . .
. . . and stick the Zip Drive in front of the top one . . .
. . . change boot drives/OS choices/App selections at will . . .
. . . I've tested the concept . . . align it just right and it ought to work like a charm. [}

Fabulous upgrade as is though. [

It's so cool that I had to let that little baby bunny sneak out from under my hat just for you! [

Cool mods!!!
Where does one get SuperClock! from? And is there anywhere that AfterDark add-ins are available? I've just got the basic AfterDark set but I remember having cool ones like "bad dog" back in the day. Would love to see that again.

i was lucky enough to get a mint , fully restored, professionally re-capped, SE/30 from mcdermd, and he had it loaded up with all the goodies, That is where i got them
Macintosh garden dot org has after dark. Not sure of the others but I'm sure they do.
Uniserver, that SE need its monitor readjusted in width and height. It's supposed to be more wide than tall. The screen resolution is 512x342 after all! Height should be 4.7" (11.75cm) and width should be 7" (17.5cm) according to the service manual for SE and SE/30 by Apple themselves. Just check images of SE ads/commercials, the screen is not supposed to be like that.
It's kind of hard to measure and adjust it to a ruler, but it's worth the time for sure.
By the way, if you think the machine adjusted its width and height by itself over time, then it's probably a good idea to recap the analog board. Also clean those rotary potentiometers while you're at it.
If you're a maniac just like me, then go ahead and check if any resistors on the analog board are out of spec by desoldering one leg and test them, one at the time. Especially those in the vertical and horizontal deflection circuit.

I always adjust my compacts so they fill the screen, i like it better that way,
Very good eye to notice, I give you kudos kind sir!

well DUH. why I no think of this? SE/30 is SOOOO getting that 2GB Jaz drive and the one 2GB Jaz disk once I fix it!Slid a Internal Iomega scsi zip drive fits nicely under the CRT
Modded Zip drive, to not eject zip disk.
installed 6.0.8 on the main boot(zip) disk.
I came across a tool on Macintosh Garden that lets you have multiple versions of the system software on a drive and select the one that boots. I forget what it was called but you could look for that if you want the ability to switch back and forth. System 6 is noticeably faster, but System 7.x has some nice features.
System Picker?
Is it a huge hassle to adjust the screen on these? Mines slid off to the left. I don't want to resize it, just move it over?

Yes, you can adjust the Pots on the side of the analogue board
they should be labeled.
they should be labeled.
6.08 is the sweetspot for these guys. I have 7.01 on my classic ii, and I won't lie, feels a bit slower. But I haven't maxed my RAM out yet, not sure how much of a difference that will make. I'm thinking I will do a clean install of 6.08L and copy all my apps etc over from my external jaz, then make my backed up 7.0.1 jaz disk optional if I really need system 7 for whatever reason.
Props on the cool mod! What do you have to do to prevent the zip from ejecting?
I agree on widening the disk slots to accommodate the zip disks, that would be impressive!
