Daystar Turbo 601
So I have a 100Mhz model.
I've installed in my IIci and it recognizes it so far so good. But going through the manual it states:
Advanced system information
Turbo 601 Control will provide a display of your current system information by pressing COMMAND-CONTROL and clicking on the Turbo 601 logo in control panel's main screen.
I can't seem to get this to work. I've held down COMMAND-CONTROL while clicking on the icon in the menu bar, while clicking on the Turbo 601 control panel entry in the drop down, and by going into the Control Panel folder and clicking on it there.
Anyone else been able to get to the advanced screen on this accelerator?

I don't have mine anymore. It says to do it while inside the control panel. So load up the control panel, then hold down Command-Control and click on the logo on the main screen of the control panel.
That was it! Thank you.
Does anyone know what the last ROM version was?

Lots of Turbo601 information here:

It will take a while to read through it all. If you use a JackHammer with the Turbo601 you need to disable SCSI Manager in the Turbo601 or maybe the JackHammer. I can't remember which any more. They both try to load SCSI Manager from their own ROM and two sets causes problems.
BTW, I'm not posting that link to end the thread. I just don't remember the information any more. I would enjoy reading of your discoveries as you work through the use of the Turbo601 and its mysteries.

Well I got it all working, have OS 8.1 installed.
But my current roadblock is getting OS 8.5 on it. I know I had it running OS 8.5.1 before my hard drive crashed so many months ago. I need to figure out how to get there again.
I tried Sonnet's PPC 8.5 enabler boot floppy, but it comes up saying it's not a supported system or some similar message. :'(

Hey, I just installed OS 8.5 and then OS 8.6 using the information at the sites below. I used a PM6100 as the installer instead of using the "wish I were" extension. (the iici would freeze up during install)
Anyway , let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks. I managed to get it up to 8.5.1.
The trick was the Sonnet 8.5 enabler didn't work when used as a boot disc, but by just copying off the enabler and PPC ID into the System folder it allowed the 8.5 setup to proceed.
Next up to try 8.6

With the Hex Find.....is there just one instance you replace? Or do you do a replace all?Anyway , let me know if you have any questions.
Just the one instance.
Ok, this is a dumb question, but the instructions say to make a copy of the System folder. How do I do that? I can select Copy. But I can never Paste it anywhere as that option is grayed out.
Goto "File" and then "Duplicate" I think the shortcut is open-apple + D
Ah crap. Maybe it's not meant to be. It gets to about 3 mins left in the install and then hangs. I've tried it twice now and each time it hangs at the same spot.
Same thing happened to me. I think it was more than 3 minutes left though. I had to use a PM6100 as the machine to install the system, then used resedit to modify, and then moved the HD over to the IIci.
Don't suppose if I send you a flash card you could do that for me????
I might be able to burn the contents of the drive to a cd using my pm8500. I think that would work?
Ya, all I'd have to do is simply copy the System folder over correct?
PM me and I'll give you my info.
Thx

Success!
Awesome!!!
Very nice! I had a user once who got 8.6 running on his 601+IIci, and then ran Classilla on that. With the full 128MB of RAM he described it as "poky, but useable."
Hmmmm.....it crashes when I run System Profiler, and check on Devices.
This is a known problem with the Turbo 601, and there are patches for both OS 8 and OS 8.5.
Anyone have a solution for it not crashing on OS 8.6?

I got it hooked up to the Internet - verified my Asante card is running at 100Mbps.
Then I installed iCab 3.0.5 which is the PPC version supported under 8.6 and surfed the web!
Note, while everything else is fairly snappy, surfing the web is slooooow. Even slower than my 040 based Color Classic running 8.1.

Agreed on the Web being slow. I've found Netscape to be snappier, while losing some compatibility.
Not strictly on topic, but did you have any issues with the Asante card? I installed an AsanteFast 10/100 card in a PM8100 a few years ago and couldn't get it to work, and then was distracted before I could try various OSs and such.
Just ran the Installer, restarted and set the Networking options to use Ethertalk, told it to use DHCP and that was it.
The one issue I had is that when you run the Installer, it will only install from the floppy. And the floppy has to be named exactly like it wants - complete with French accente character and copyright character. I found an obscure post Googling that had the right character codes embedded in the post, pasted it into Textpad and then copied it to the floppy name.
