Macintosh Classic
What would you suggest as the fastest CPU/Graphics upgrade for this little machine ?
Neither one of those is upgradeable.
You can get external video through the SCSI port for colour and some CPU upgrades. To quote LEM regarding the Macintosh Classic:

A Classic II logic board will make it a much better machine, especially in System 6. Upgrade RAM to 10 mb also.

Just be aware that if you install a Classic II board, you'll have to install 6.0.8L, rather than the regular 6.0.8.
Also be aware the ports are slightly different--you have a sound input jack on the Classic II (not present on a regular Classic).
Humm, do you drill a hole to accommodate?
I mean It's not like you will need to get out the Japanese saws, but still its a case mod
Yes, i have got a Classic II board in a Classic casing, easy enough the hole was made and everything went smooth.
but then you loose the super cool ability to boot from ROM, :-(
I also have a Classic, and never used the boot rom anyway.
While booting from ROM is handy if the OS won't boot, it's pretty much just a fancy feature. There's not much to in that booted state, what's the point? It's much cooler to have a personalized full system booting from the HDD.
yeah this is much more cool! and it boots 7.0.1 + apps from rom 
That is pretty weird.. you all talk about drilling a hole next to the ADB port for sound in...
but on my Classic... there is already a hole there, including the microphone logo.

My Classic does not have this plug.

Interesting in that my Classic does not have the plug but does have the molded information label instead of the adhesive label yours has. I can't remember ever having a Classic with a label like yours.
