Anyone put a SSD in a G4 Cube? Hardware 4 posts Feb 6, 2013 — Feb 6, 2013
I want to dump the 400GB IDE drive that's in my Cube. The CPU has been upgraded to a PowerLogix 1GHz G4 and the video card has been upgraded to an Nvidia 2MX. Since I'm using the original VRM, I'd like like conserve some power and keep the heat down by dumping the toasty Seagate drive in favor of a cooler-running, lower-power solid state drive. The additional speed boost would be nice too.

Anyone have any experience with that?

I've actually heard of people favoring external Firewire 400 drives since they're actually faster than the IDE bus, but I'd like to keep the drive internal if I can.

Does someone make a 2.5' SATA to 3.5' IDE enclosure for older computers?

Internal over 120 gb can be an issue with the cubes. I read that so much so I just put in a 120 gb HD.

Plenty of information on SSDs in Cubes over at the CubeOwner Forums. Have a look at http://www.cubeowner.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14640

No great drama in getting past the 120GB linit on HDD size, again CubeOwners Forum has http://www.cubeowner.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13148

And as you've already got a 400GB drive in the Cube, it would seem that you've got the "fix" already applied. Just check out the information on partitioning for the new SSD you're intending to put in.
