Affected Models: PowerBook 190, 1400 & 5300
If you have a PowerBook that uses Card and Socket Services 2, (the 190, 1400 & 5300) then you can only support one alternate Ethernet network at a time. Wireless is treated as a alternate Ethernet network.
Example: The PB 1400 supports only LocalTalk, IR-Talk, and only one Ethernet at a time. If you install software for a PCMCIA Ethernet card, then remove the software and install wireless software, it won't work on wireless.
You can remove the wireless software and reinstall the Ethernet software and your PCMCIA Ethernet card will work again.
With Card & Socket Services (CSS2), The installers write data to the System File, and the only way to get it to change is to do a clean install or the OS. A Update of the OS won't work.
The AppleTalk Control Panel in my PowerBook 1400 has the following selections, Remote Only, Infrared (IR Talk), Modem/Printer Port and Alternate Ethernet. If you have installed a version of AOL dial up software, you will also have a listing for AOL Link Enhanced. This AOL software does not affect your ability to add wireless."
