Cache Driver on PB540c HD Troubleshooting 4 posts Oct 7, 2015 — Oct 26, 2015
Anyone know what this is?? I have never seen a drive formatted like this before... Is this to use the "040 Fast Cache" option?? Over the years I never enabled or tried that on any machine...

its the read/write back cache on the HDD. it speeds up disk access quite a bit.

Sorta like smartdrive did in the DOS days.

Yeah it's weird Mike.. The 540c freezes when you launch Apple System Profiler.. But booted from CD has no issue. I'm assuming it's crapping out because it doesn't understand the cache thing.. I want to reformat but I'd hate to wipe this cause I've never seen it and not sure if I can get it back..

Thats why you clone the drive first.
