The 9600 is somewhat finicky about batteries, yes. Try turning the machine on, then off then on again at powerup over a space of about 3 seconds... its a trick to get a 9600 with a flat PRAM battery going. Or in my case, no PRAM batery. That said, this only partially solve d my issue. I still have two cards that exhibit this exact problem yet work in other stuff fine.
