Been thinking about hacking in a IIcx/IIci/Q700 speaker in place of the small round speaker in the IIfx. Anyone do it before? Sound quality is a little better with the oval speaker from those models.

yeah the Q700 sounds is pretty good now that you mentioned that.

I'll have to see where I put my extra speaker assembly and see if it'll fit.

Get a speaker from a 6XXX road apple and mount it underneath the HDD. I've got one hooked up to my PEx MoBo, the boot chimes sound fabulous.

Or one from a Quad/LC/Perf 63x series machine, right?

Yup! Same speaker assy, as the 6xx, but a Road Apple has no business sounding that good. [}
