7100 vs 8100 mobo - differences?
Pretty much the title is the question. What, if any, are the differences between the 7100 and 8100 logic boards? Assuming identical speeds.

Power connector - the 7100 uses the IIcx/IIci/IIvx/Q700/Q650 power connector. 8100 uses the Quadra 900/PCI PowerMac power connector.
The 8100 has a second "Fast" internal only SCSI bus using a NEC 53CF96 chip -- later SYMBIOS 53CF96 and still later LSI Logic 53CF96.. The 7100 has only the one SCSI bus.
This is why I suspect that the "MESH" chip in the x500 and X600 PCI PowerMacs is actually just a licensed 53CF96. The 9500 succeeded the 8100 and the second SCSI bus stayed exactly the same in functionality but the chip changed from 53CF96 to MESH.

it blows my mind just how big technology companies were able to:just a licensed 53CF96
1. get projects completed.
2. make any money.
after the taxes/payroll/building costs/bills/logistics/advertising/UIA/licensed/royalties/ lawyers… yada yada
and all of what goes in to something like for example a Quadra 700.
Design / Plastic's / PCB / Parts / Placement / PSU / etc. takes a big crew of people. and a whole lotta vendors.
I have no idea legally who all gets paid for using technology from
Standards/Associations - Licensed Technology… POOOF!
I guess I'd be interested to see a breakdown.
