I would give it a clean with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) first and see what it looks like after that.

Also I'm wondering if the videocard and your monitor are compatible. If they aren't it could explain the lack of video. Happened to me once.

Does it boot off a floppy? I find it easier to tell if it actually boots when you use a floppy rather than the harddrive.
